HOWO Rigid Trucks vs Prime Movers

Both are used to move goods, but they are built for different kinds of work. The right choice depends on your loads, your routes and how you plan to grow.

Rigid trucks

A rigid truck carries its cargo on the same chassis as the cab. It is simpler to operate, easier to manoeuvre in towns and yards, and well suited to distribution and regular shorter routes. Its capacity is limited by the chassis and body.

Prime movers

A prime mover pulls a separate semi-trailer. That allows much larger loads and the flexibility to swap trailers, but the rig is longer, needs more space to turn and calls for more careful licensing and weight planning.

Questions to ask yourself

  • How much do I need to carry in one trip?
  • Will I make many drops in towns, or a few long hauls?
  • Do I need to swap or share trailers?
  • Where will the vehicle load, park and turn?
  • What are my legal weight and length limits on these routes?
